The Punjab Education Department is starting a program to hire 12,500 School Teaching Interns (STIs) for 2025. This program aims to give new teachers a chance to gain experience. It also helps solve the teacher shortage in government schools in Punjab.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the STI program, candidates need to meet certain requirements:
- Residency: You must live in the district where you’re applying.
- Educational Qualifications:
- Primary Level: You need a Bachelor’s degree (B.A/B.Sc) and a teaching certification.
- Middle, High, and Higher Secondary Levels: For these levels, you need a Master’s degree (M.A/M.Sc/BS Honors) in a relevant subject and a teaching certification.
- Age Limit: You must be between 21 to 45 years old.
- Experience: While new graduates are welcome, those with teaching experience will get preference.
Application Process
The application process is clear and easy to follow:
- Online Application: You must apply online through a portal for your district.
- Documentation: You need to upload scanned copies of your educational certificates, teaching qualifications, and proof of residency.
- Merit List: After the deadline, applications will be reviewed. Merit lists will be made and posted at DEO offices, online, and on school notice boards.
- Interviews: Those on the merit list will be invited for interviews. These will check your teaching skills and communication.
Internship Details
- Duration: The internship lasts up to nine months, except during summer breaks.
- Stipend: Interns will get a monthly stipend based on their teaching level:
- Primary Level: Rs. 38,000
- Middle Level: Rs. 40,000
- High & Higher Secondary Level: Rs. 45,000
- Responsibilities: Interns will only focus on teaching. They won’t do administrative tasks or evening school roles.
- Non-Permanent Position: The internship is temporary and doesn’t lead to a permanent job. After completing it, interns will get a certificate from the education department.
Selection Procedure
The selection process is based on merit and includes these steps:
- Need Assessment: School principals will decide if they need teaching interns based on their current staff and student numbers.
- Advertisement: Vacancies will be advertised widely to reach more people.
- Application Review: Applications will be checked for eligibility. Candidates will be ranked based on their academic achievements and experience.
- Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will have interviews with a panel. This panel includes the Deputy DEO, AEO, school head, and school council members.
- Final Selection: Those who pass the interviews will be told and given hiring letters within three days of the final list being published.
Code of Conduct and Performance Monitoring
Interns must follow a professional code of conduct. This includes:
- Being on time and regularly attending.
- Showing respect to students, colleagues, and school staff.
- Planning and delivering effective lessons.
- Participating in school events and activities.
Performance will be checked often. This includes how well teachers teach, how they manage the classroom, and what students say.
